JENNYD

Jenny Donovan has been a “hobby” triathlete for over a decade. In 2005, she completed her first iron-distance event in Montreal, and has since competed at The Great Floridian and Ironman Lake Placid. Ironman Canada will be her 5th long-distance triathlon, set to take place on August 28th, in Penticton, BC.

Given the immense time commitment IM training requires, Jenny felt the need to combine her efforts with another passion; animal welfare.

In 2009, while training for Ironman Lake Placid, she collaborated with the montreal SPCA and raised funds to combat the puppy mill industry. She hopes that she can take her efforts even further, working with S.P.A Canada, for IM Canada. This will be her first Ironman where she will be training on a vegan diet.

On a professional level, her work lies more in the creative domain. Jenny’s been in the 2D animation industry for over 10 years as both a background painter (traditional and digital) as well as Artistic Director. Her current contract is a children’s television series “Doggy Day School 2″, produced by Cite Amerique.

Once Ironman season is finished, Jenny hopes to continue working with S.P.A. Canada, in organising high school presentations on the subject of animal welfare.

She is also a huge fan of roller derby and is involved with the Montreal Roller Derby League as a referee and officiator. Wearing stripes is one of the perks!

JENNY ALLAN (AKA “PUPPY”)

Puppy is new to triathlon, and IM Canada will be her first Iron-distance triathlon. While there is much to be learned in endurance training, she is a natural and talented athlete. A competitive varsity lightweight rower, she has brought home many medals and competed on a national level. And when she isn’t busy during tri season, she plays soccer, hockey and snowboards.

She is also currently  finishing up her master’s degree in Microbiology at McGill University. The specialised study of extreme, “cold-loving” microorganisms had her traveling to the high Arctic where she collected permafrost core samples for analysis. The travel also provided a rare opportunity of seeing and experiencing a part of the world (and its indigenous inhabitants) few ever see.

This September, while completing her Masters, Puppy will also be attending her first year of veterinary school at Université de Montréal.

Out of the two Jennys, she is the more adventurous vegan recipe seeker, and will be sharing her training nutrition and new vegan concoctions. Look for them in “Training Vegan” tab!
